Let's warm up with Nabe, a staple of Japanese winter parties!

Happy New Year!

In Japan, after Christmas is over, we often still gather and eat together with friends and families during the year-end and New Year holidays. A menu that is easy and healthy at these gatherings is different kinds of hot pots! In this lesson, you will learn how to make a Mille-feuille (thousand layers) hot pot, which is simple but tastes and looks great.

For our main dish, we will be making Saikyo-Yaki (fish marinated in miso), a dish we get requested a lot at JJ Kitchen. For our side dish, we will be making Chawanmushi (steamed savory egg custard), a dish many people become addicted to for its creamy and fluffy texture, and a healthy dish using Hijiki seaweed which is full of fiber, vitamins and minerals.
For dessert, we will be making Kurumi-mochi (walnut sticky rice cake) from my mom’s hometown Iwate, easy but delicious Japanese sweets!
