Let’s try making cute bear shaped Inarizushi!

‘Charaben’, short for character bento, is a lunch box where the food is arranged and decorated to look like popular characters, animals, and etc. It was born from Japanese mothers’ desire to get their picky children to enjoy and eat their lunch.

In this lesson, we will make bear-shaped inarizushi (sushi rice stuffed in sweet and savory deep-fried tofu pouches), while you learn decoration tips (heart-shaped omelet, sausage octopus & apple rabbit) and all you need to know about bento making!
Inarizushi is a very popular picnic food that is loved by not only kids but also adults in Japan.
We will make at least three side dishes and miso soup from scratch as well.

There are so many tools and accessories available for you to use in bento making. We can also show you the recommended tools and accessories that you can purchase at a 100 yen shop!

Remarks

  • Just bring yourself! Aprons are available for free.
  • No need to clean up.
  • Children aged 6 and older are counted as separate participants. If you like to bring children under 6 years old to your class, we recommend you to book a private class. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Take-away is possible except for raw food, but management outside of the classroom is requested by yourself and we are not responsible for any trouble on hygiene. Please bring your own take-away container, ice cooler etc.
  • Price includes lesson, all ingredients, printed recipes and the listed number of drinks.

    Dear our wonderful members and guests,

    It is with deep sadness to announce that we have decided to close JJ Kitchen for the time being.

    During the past 5 years, we have enjoyed cooking and discussing cultural issues with each and everyone. However, Junko had a stroke in June and is currently in the hospital undergoing physiotherapy. Since we do not know how long this will take, we have come to the conclusion to close our doors.

    For those of you that still have our vouchers, we will be contacting you separately.

    For JJ Kitchen members, we will contact you regarding future lessons.

    We thank you all for the love and support you have shown JJ Kitchen, and we hope that we can cook together again.
