🔸🔸🔸 Purpose of the exhibition 🔸🔸🔸

Misa Takeoka, one of the foremost kimono masters in Japan, has a huge collection of kimonos in addition to her signature Yuzen hand-drawn, state-of-the-art kimonos. Following her death last year at the age of 101, her supporters including her son, realized how rich her collection was, and decided they would like to show it to the public.

She was the top protégé of It’chiku Kubota who was the world famous Kimono artist for ‘It’chiku Tsujigahana Dyeing.’ It’chiku Kubota is remembered as the first artist whose works were displayed in an exhibition by Smithsonian Museum while the artist was still alive.

Misa Takeoka’s collection includes various outstanding examples of kimono weaving and dyeing techniques. We believe it will be quite worthwhile for you to come and see this exhibition to enhance your understanding of this essential facet of traditional Japanese culture.
